'Out and About'...a hodge-podge of Judd Hirsch, cupcakes, perfume and bags

Whew! Just got back from the West Village, did the rounds, lots to report:

  • Spotted Judd Hirsch having dinner at that Thai restaurant on the corner of Bleecker and Bank Street ...
  • Got a flurry of cupcakes for my boy at Magnolia,
  • Popped into Bond No. 9, where I discovered there is a new fragrance coming out tomorrow, aptly named 'Bryant Park' after the madness that occurs there during fashion week...while they didn't yet have any bottles available for sale, they did have some small testers... it was nice, not going to run out and buy it, but nice...apparently it has elements of Patchouli and Rhubarb (who would have thought)....
  • Checked out what was new at Marc Jacobs...what was up with that?? there was like all this cheap crap there....'made in China'...key chains galore, all for like 2$, 5$...it was strange...not sure what the story was with that...if I find out more...I'll update...
  • Finally got around to stopping into the new Mulberry store that opened a few months ago....love the new patent bags...love, love, love...also the salesgirl told me that they have a fab new collection arriving tomorrow that is a new collaboration with Giles Deacon...they are supposed to be very edgy...with large studs and such...I asked if they were similar to Sonia Rykiel's classic stud bags...similar vein apparently. Will try to get some photos up....looking forward to seeing them in person.

Love the Abington Square area...if you are there also check out 'Cherry', a very funky boutique specialising in vintage designer duds....saw a great Sonia Rykiel shirt and a very beautiful Norma Kamali coat, and the MOST amazing Alaia white wool dress, Stun-ing!!!

Creed...the Caribbean, and Natalie Wood

So at BG the other day (yes AGAIN....)...and had the chance to sample the newest fragrance from Creed; 'Virgin Island Water' . It's the perfect summer perfume, a mix of coconut, lime, bergamot, jasmine, and a little white rum. Delicious, refreshing, you have to smell it to believe it, but it really feels like you are in the Caribbean. Its so light and uplifting....This is going to be my summer smell!!! Can you tell I can't wait for this cold weather to leave? Oh and I forgot the best part, a portion of the sales go towards charities that protect the Oceans!

So, I have been on the search for a new fragrance for over 6 months now, I had tried some of the Creed perfumes in the fall upon the recommendation that they used very little if any synthetic components and in the end got a bit overwhelmed by how many there were...but now that I have had some time to reflect and go back again and smell just those that had appealed to me, I believe I have found the one......TADA: Jasmal. One of their older fragrances, it was created in the late 50's for Natalie Wood. This is such a beautiful warm sensual perfume. I am so excited to bring it into my life. And who better to share a scent with than Natalie?

You can purchase Creed in NYC at Jeffrey, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks. The 'Virgin Island Water' is exclusive to BG though.

Les Exclusifs de Chanel

Chanel has just released a new collection of 10 perfumes called Les Exclusifs. I love perfume, especially french fragrances.....so I was delighted to see this new collection from Chanel at BG last week. The line is available exclusively at Chanel boutiques and Bergdorf Goodman. They are 200 milliliter spray bottles at 175$ each and they have a neat feature which is a magnetic top...check it out to see what I mean! There are four original fragrances being reintroduced; Chanel No. 22 (from 1922), Cuir de Russie, Gardenia, and Bois de Iles, and then six that have been newly created; 31, rue Cambon, Coromandel, Eau de Cologne, 28 La Pausa, Bel Respiro, and No. 18.

They are all wonderful fragrances but thus far my favorite and the one I will likely get is Coromandel which is vanilla-ish, amber and patchouli and has a beautiful dry down, very sophisto. The very traditional 'Eau de Cologne' is also very nice, its lemon-y, vetiver and fresh, and the only one available in a bigger splash size of 400 millimeters at $300, plus its unisex so you can share!!

Oh and according to the saleswoman these are formulated primarily without synthetics (esp relevant for moi since I am often allergic and because all other Chanel fragrance including No 5 are totally synthetic)

If you are interested...The NY Times Thursday Style section featured the new launch last week, read it here!

Friday

Marc Jacobs Patchwork 'Carolyn'

Roger Vivier opens on Madison Ave

Finally.

Roger Vivier opened thier new flagship store in NYC last week. The gorgrous classic square-toe buckle flats which the equally lovely Catherine Denvue made famous in 'Belle du Jour' can be found there. Exhibit A:

The boutique also features small leather goods, the new handbag line and sunglasses as well as lots of different shoe styles.

We can get our lovely flat fix without having to go to awful Saks (well at least here in NYC). Have I mentioned my loathe for Saks Fifth Avenue? Where to start? The pushy over-bearing cosmetics sales people, I swear it's like a video game trying to fight them off just to get to the rest of the store, and YES unfortunately I know of no way to avoid them, there is only one way to enter and its by having to walk through that first floor swatting them off (no matter which door you choose). Arghh. Anyway.

The new boutique was designed by cult French jeweler Herve van der Straeten, and has a very artistic, calm vibe. A glimpse into the lovely and serene (no crazy sales people here) new store freshly opened on the Upper East Side:

Lanvin's new accessories--AMAZING

Lanvin founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin is the oldest Parisian fashion house in existence. In 2003 Alber Elbaz was appointed chief designer having previously worked for Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and he continues to push classicism to an inspiring new edge.

What a collection! I am so in love with Lanvin's latest accessories offering. In muted grays, brilliant blacks, from bangles to bags, I want it all (and I want it now....). Sunglasses, ummm so yummy. Patent is so wonderful.

Wednesday

Penhaligon's

I discovered this amazing perfume line at Le Bon Marche in Paris this summer; Pehhaligon's, its British and very old, two of my favorite things! Luckily it can be found in NYC, which I believe is its only location outside Europe. The flagship store is on Madison Avenue. So far my favorite fragrance is Lavendula. It's a lovely place and worth visiting, make room on an afternoon and soak in the regal British ambiance...after perhaps pop into the MET for a little art fix.

'Naturally 7' on the Paris Metro

Being one of my favorite songs from Phil Collins; 'In the air tonight', I was thrilled to find this version by 'Naturally 7' . A live performance from the New York City based group that was caught on the Paris Metro recently, this is a lovely show of the way music brings people together...stick it out for the whole clip and you can watch the evolution of people's reactions, from blase, maybe annoyed to completely grooving, it's pretty interesting, especially if you live here in NYC where this is a common occurrence on the subway. If you want, check out their official website: http://www.n7house.de/index.phtml .
Enjoy!

In case you missed 'The Hills' last Monday night...of Chinoisere and Peonies

Emily Weiss: Uber-Intern at Teen Vogue (NYC office)

Having attended grade school myself in neighboring Westport...I can certainly sympathize with this breed of uber-perfect. Luckily I have been brushing up on my rare flower identification skills, not so for Lauren Conrad, interning at Teen Vogue's LA offices. Monday nights episode of "The Hills" gave us a glimpse into the alpha female structure.

Radar's coverage,

and Gawker's take...

Love THIS show!!!

Thursday

De-light-full

Have discovered a new HG lippie. 'Delightful' from Smashbox is the most amazing color, its a versatile neutral with a great hint of pink blush. They refer to it as a "sheer berry"...hmm, i suppose it does make you look like you've just been kissed! How delightful.

Also worth mentioning, this line of lipstick is amazingly moisturizing and wears beautifully, so be sure to check out the other colors as well, it was really quite hard to pick only one!

Available at Sephora.

Speaking of Andy Warhol...

p.s.
Factory Girl opened two weeks ago in NYC

The young, beautiful and wealthy socialite Edie Sedgwick exploded onto the New York art scene in the sixties, becoming the object of Andy Warhol's attention and art. However, the same things that built her up would eventually lead to her downfall.

This is worth seeing for the fashion alone!
