Georgia Rule? Well...Lindsay Lohans wardrobe certainly rocks!

P.S.

I watched Georgia Rule today. What else to do in the Montreal rain? (Have I mentioned its been raining ALL week?) Anyway: unlike some who have dissed LaLohan and the movie, I loved it. Besides Lindsay's wonderfully covetable wardrobe (amazing skinny jeans, flow-y white tops, great wedges, to die-for sunglasses, etc)...I was drooling half the movie...I think it was a good performance....and a good movie. I really enjoyed it. Judge for yourself. The perfect opportunity? Well, the 93 degree weather I left behind in NYC or the cold dreary rain of Montreal!

Escape to the movies. Covet Lindsay's clothes.

Barneys Summer Sale

Umm, it's hard to write about this, since I am in Montreal and its rainy and cold-ish. Not summer at all. I totally mis-packed and neeeeeeed Barneys. Anyway. Hello: wardrobe change!

Back to Blonde: Jessica Simspon Returns to Her "Roots"

Jess in NYC this week.
Yay. We like you better blonde Jess.

Again in NYC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like the interior of "What Comes Around Goes Around' in Soho...a great place for vintage if you don't want to search yourself and your willing to pay premium dollar (said with a tad sarcastic tone).

90's Supermodels are Back?! Claudia Schiffer and Stephanie Seymour to Star in New Advertising Campaigns.

Ferragamo will be featuring not one, but two greats in their upcoming print adverts. Stephanie Seymour and Claudia Schiffer, two of my old-time favourites, will be starring in Ferragamo's Fall Ad campaign. In other big news, Stephanie Seymour was the cover girl for German Vogue in the April edition (above!), looking stunning. Schiffer is also being featured in the upcoming Chanel cruise collection ads.

Olsen 'Pic' of the Day: Mary-Kate in LA with Beau Max...Rocking the Long Scarf and Prada Fringe Bag

Mary-Kate in LA yesterday with beau Max.

Love the long scarf look. Adore the faded black skinnies..I think they have zippers, which is doubly cool (and also makes them possible to get on, while still giving you the max thinness at the ankle!). Love aviator Ray-Bans (these are the smaller frame version) but not such a fan of the blue/purple tinted lens... and speaking of I have a few pairs of Ray Ban Wayfarers to feature on Steal my Clothes! Also, personally, have never been a huge fan of the upper arm cuff...I just think its uncomfortable and looks weird. She's still working the strappy sandal/heels and Prada fringe purse. Me: not so much buying into the fringe trend...its never been much my style, looks cute on her though.

For Those Wanting Even More on Lipstick Jungle...

Some 'behind the scenes' shots from the pilot of Lipstick Jungle:

Costumer David Robinson designed Victory's 'collection' for the show

In the pilot, Wendy (Shields) is making a last-minute entrance to her friend's fashion show (above).

Bushnell, Shields, and Kim Raver, who plays glossy magazine editor Nico O'Neilly.

Candace Bushnell on the set of LJ

Brooke Shields in the opening scene of LJ.

From a Daily News article back in April:

"Apologizing profusely as she brushes past people's knees, Brooke Shields runs to take her front-row seat at the most anticipated show at New York Fashion Week.

She hugs her friend, takes off her Jackie O sunglasses and settles into a tiny chair next to glamorous "Sex and the City" author Candace Bushnell.

The scene could be straight out of Shields' everyday life but the digital clapperboard, booms and bustling TV crew a few feet away reveal it's actually the star's latest acting gig.

Bushnell is playing herself, just for kicks, in a cameo role in the TV pilot for "Lipstick Jungle," based on her fourth novel...

The story follows the fortunes of three female power brokers from the Big Apple who must keep ahead of their rivals, all while dealing with irksome domestic issues such as spoiled kids, lazy husbands or boy-toy lovers.

They're a decade older than the popular "Sex and the City" quartet and face challenges that make Carrie's heartbreaking pursuit of Mr. Big seem like a pleasant diversion.

Shields' Wendy Healy is a top-flight movie executive desperate to nab an Oscar. Kim Raver, of "24" fame, plays Nico O'Neilly, editor-in-chief of a glossy magazine who is fighting off cutthroat rivals while conducting a raunchy affair.

Lindsay Price ("Pepper Dennis" and "Coupling") completes the trio as unmarried fashion designer Victory Ford, whose new collection is badly received.

The fashion show set was built for the program's opening scene, in which Victory puts the final touches to her models before they take the runway.

NBC has invested millions of dollars in the project - with a big budget for elaborate stage sets, flamboyant outfits and plenty of extras.

Shooting the pilot in New York was a no-brainer because the city is featured so prominently in the book.

Shields, who was born in Manhattan and has a second home in the city, caused a logjam in Central Park as on-lookers watched her rowing across the lake in front of the Boathouse restaurant.

And then there was pandemonium in the lingerie department at Bloomingdale's when filming ran long and customers started to pour in as the store opened at 10 a.m."

Chanel's Fall/Winter 2007 Collection Makes its North American Debut in Vancouver!!

Go Canada!

Chanel's Fall/Winter 2007 collection will make its North American Debut in Vancouver on June 8th!

Look Familiar?

Fashion Week Daily reports:
"Art patrons and fashion-lovers of the Canadian persuasion will get an eyeful at Vancouver Art Gallery’s Monet to Dalí Ball on June 8, where Chanel's Fall/Winter 2007 ready-to-wear collection will make its North American debut with a formal runway presentation. Aside from Karl Lagerfeld's creations, also on preview is the exhibition Monet to Dalí: Modern Masters, from the Cleveland Museum of Art, which features art from many of the greats, including Cézanne, Dalí, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Matisse, Modigliani, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, Seurat and van Gogh. The black tie fundraising event will begin with a champagne reception in a Monet-inspired garden on Robson Square Plaza, followed by dinner and a live auction at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s grand BC Ballroom, which will be transformed by the French fashion house to replicate the snowbound scenery from its recent show at the Grand Palais in Paris."

Now all those Vancouverites that I know (and you know who you are) get thee to the ball!

Saturday

'Gossip Girl' is coming to the small screen!

Cool. Another fun girly TV series set to premiere in the Fall. Now I haven't read all of the books in the Gossip Girls Series, but what I have read are deliciously delightful. The series revolves around an exclusive group of teenagers going to private school on NYC's Upper East Side. This could be a new contender for 'must-see TV', and god knows we need that. Right?

From Publishers Weekly:
"Cecily von Ziegesar’s Gossip Girl series (Little, Brown) first hit the YA book scene in 2001, touted as fun chick lit for the younger set—Sex and the City for teens. Readers were soon clamoring for the novels in which anonymous gossip columnist/narrator Gossip Girl, aka GG, follows the living-large exploits of wealthy teenage Manhattanite Blair Waldorf and her friends."

From E!:
"The series is being billed as the heir-apparent to The O.C. (back when it was worth watching) and with good reason: It was created by Josh Schwartz, the mastermind of the soapy, since departed Fox drama.

Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively (Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) as a privileged Manhattan prep school student who returns to her school and rekindles a feud with another of her pretty and privileged classmates. Underscoring the drama are the dishy blogs of Gossip Girl, whose identity is a secret but whose voice belongs to Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars). "

GG will air this fall on The CW, Wednesday nights at 9pm after ANTM.

La Vie en Rose....What an Amazing Film!

Amongst other events last night, I attended a special showing (thank you lovely Jennifer Levy Niederhoffer of Impress Media) of La Vie en Rose, a soon to be released film. It was absolutely wonderful. I love Edith Paif's voice, her songs are usually the soundtrack to my Sunday morning brunch-making at home. Despite my love for her voice though, I knew very little of her life. What a poignant and amazingly produced film this was, really touching on the human character....

A synopsis:
"
The ferocious talent and indomitable spirit of legendary chanteuse Edith Piaf is celebrated in this French feast of a biopic, featuring a stunning performance by Marion Cotillard as the "little sparrow" who lived, loved and sang with no regrets. A huge hit in France and winner of five Césars, La Vie en Rose arrives on these shores with its uniquely Gallic blend of onstage triumph, backstage tragedy and tempestuous melodrama intact. Skillfully sifting time periods, far-flung locales and extremes of mood and imagery, director Olivier Dahan delivers far more than the standard biopic. Jumping with emotional, if not sequential, logic among pivotal periods in Piaf's life—from her Balzacian childhood as the daughter of a circus acrobat and alcoholic prostitute, her upbringing in a brothel and her discovery by nightclub owner Louis Leplée (Gérard Depardieu) to her passionate affair with boxer Marcel Cedan, years of drug addiction and a hallucinatory final night in Grasse—the film indulges its heroine’s unquenchable thirst for life, love and experience"

The trailer:

For a detailed review of the movie check here.

LA VIE EN ROSE will be released by PICTUREHOUSE in NY, LA, and SF on the 8th of June......not sure about the rest of the country.....I am sure it will trickle down.

Do go see. And Enjoy!

Below, a clip of the wonderful Edith Piaf singing the famed 'La Vie en Rose':

Thursday

Kate Moss for Topshop 'Pansy Dress' in Da House.

FYI girls:
Stopped by Barneys Coop this Afternoon for like 2 seconds and saw that there was a little replenishment of the KM for TS collection. The dress I did not snag but wanted, the famed "Pansy Dress" is present!!! There are a few size 6's, an 8 and a 10, they ring in at 120$,. Tried the dress on, and surprisingly its really lovely, cut very flatteringly. These additions to stock were shipped in from other Barneys across the US where they did not sell. Get 'em while you can! Literally there were only five there, and they will probably be gone by tomorrow.

OK--have to run. Event uptown in like 3 seconds, madly dashing about trying to get ready.

Meet Joy Gryson, the Creator Behind Gryson Handbags

If you have the chance Friday afternoon (maybe on your lunch-break?), run over to Bloomies and meet Joy Gryson. Joy, who used to work as Director of Design for Marc Jacobs Handbag and Accessorises division, is the fantabulous creator behind Gryson bags, they are newish on the scene, but not shabby at all, beautifully constructed from high quality leather and suede made in Italy. Very covetable indeed. Check out my post that covered Gryson bags from last month.

A fave below:

Cynthia Rowley's new collection at Bergdorf Goodman, I approve!

In the past I have been a little afraid of Cynthia Rowley's clothes, for me they were a little girly, too frilly, feminine and light....but this new collection, exclusively online at Bergdorf Goodman is amazing, it has just enough hard edge to please me!!! Great contrast between feminine cuts and drape and definitive lines, which serves the purpose of hardening the softness. My favourites below. Enjoy!

Beaded silk dress. The silk fabric line inlay seems to be a repeated affair in several of the collection pieces. I like the way it creates a theme, unifying a vision.

Sweatshirt dress.

Metallic Silk Dress.

Sleeveless Banded Dress.
I love this dress, and once again the wonderful use of fabric inlay really tempers what could be a very soft look giving it a much more balanced feel. I love, love, love her use of these solid stripes throughout the collection. Such a cool unifying theme.

Lipstick Jungle: Our Answer to the Gap Left by Sex and the City?

So, I've been hearing news as of late that Brooke Shields is to star in a TV series adaptation of the book 'Lipstick Jungle' by Candace Bushnell. This is one of the few shows I have been excited about in a long time. I love SATC and still watch it religiously in lieu of anything decent having been created to replace it. So I wonder, will this live up to the inevitable hype of having not only a similar-ish plot to SATC but the obvious "its also written by Candace Bushnell" fact. The show is bound to have enormous pressure on it to live up to our expectations. I can only hope it does!

Info surrounding the series seems to be hazy...but it is set to release for the fall line-up and those that have seen the pilot seem to have good things to say. I read the book last year and I remember thinking it was pretty entertaining. In contrast with SATC, LJ focused more on job success and making it as woman in the work world while still maintaining family and relationship success, the characters are also older and more established, sort of SATC plus ten years.

The show will be carried by NBC. Excerpts from their press release below:

"Based on the best-selling novel by Candace Bushnell ("Sex and the City"), this fun dramedy follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game. Nico (Kim Raver, "24"), editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine, wants to replace her boss as CEO. Movie exec Wendy (Brooke Shields, "Suddenly Susan") finds even her most earnest efforts may not be enough to balance career and family. And free-spirited designer Victory (Lindsay Price, "Beverly Hills, 90210") longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find Mr. Right along the way. Armed with humor and strength, these three modern New York women support one another through the triumphs and tears that are all part of making it big in the Big Apple. Written by executive producers DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler (both for "How I Met Your Mother," "Three Sisters") and based on the book by Bushnell, "Lipstick Jungle" is from NBC Universal Television Studio. The pilot is directed by Gary Winick ("13 Going on 30")."

Saturday

Most Wanted: Robert Rodriguez High-Waist Pant

Robert Rodriguez (who I love!) High Waist Pants. Available at Bergdorf Goodman on 5F.

Belted Pants: Black/cream stripes.
High, double-belted waist.
Flat front.
Flared legs.
Front zip.
98% cotton, 2% Lycra®.
Imported of Italian materials.

I know a lot of people are all down on the high-waist, but as I have stressed before, wear what suits you. Now, for me, having long legs and a long torso/high waist this style is a god-send...plus I think it looks very cool.

Friday

A Week in Belts: The Olsen Twins

This week in LA and NYC, The Olsen's working the belt. Love that little skirt that Ashley is wearing, similar look to the skirt she was rocking a few weeks ago. In fact, maybe it is the same one...that would be very Ashley!

For some great wide statement belts see the post I did earlier in the year. And if your feeling thrifty check out this belt from Forever 21, its very similar to one I got in London last year from Topshop, which has turned out to be indispensable (I throw it onto dresses, shirts, whatever, totally takes the outfit to a new level). And at a $5.80 price-point, how can you go wrong?

Wednesday

The NYC Launch of Kate Moss for Topshop at Barneys Coop

Whew! What a day.

Soooo, in spite of waking up super early to get into Barneys for their 10am opening time....I didn't end up making it there until 20 minutes after 10...I am not so good at mornings. Things were pretty calm when I entered the store, there were a few reporters out front asking questions of shoppers who had already been in and out...I heard some talk of hype and exorbitant pricing...cashing in, etc.

When the elevator opened on the 7th floor, there was definitely a pronounceable din...and an energy buzz. The Kate Moss collection was clustered around a small space in the middle of the room comprised (at this point at least) of 7 or so racks that were being attacked in a gently chaotic manner. Certainly things were quite civil and not at all madness. Having arrived just a tad too late...I missed out on nearly all the dresses, 'cept for that particular one I was hoping to get (alas I didn't like the way it hung after all) and a chiffon number (see below) that at 200$ was so way overpriced and just not my thing.

The Chiffon 'Tatoo" Dress

The Cowl Neck 'Dress' as terribly photographed by Moi in the dressing room. Hmm looking at it here, I kinda like it....at the time I thought, not worth 115$ and truthfully its not...tho it is cute. Anyway, too late.

The only vest option (and another majorly crummy pic by moi) they had...I snagged one when it was returned to the rack after someone deferred. A button popped off before I even got to try it on, at that price, I was like 'forget it'...plus it was made in China, not such a great indicator of quality workmanship...passed on this one too.

Other than those 2 dresses there was little else in the way of variety, a large number of the 'beater' tanks in white, khaki, pink and black, some short-shorts, a couple of patterned T's, a beaded shirt/dress that no one seemed to be going for (though I thought was cute but pricey and heavy), a few pairs of black skinny jeans and even fewer pairs of blue denim cropped jeans. It really was slim pickings. People seemed to keep hovering around the same 6 racks filled with redundant pieces, waiting for the rare occurrence when someone would return a piece after nixing it. By the time I left the 7 or so racks were down to 4 measly barren racks.

In essence, a rather disappointing affair that fell short in both variety and quantity. The pieces just weren't that interesting or 'new'. I left with a pair of the black skinny jeans but truthfully I already have another black pair from Topshop and I am not so sure these are too different, so they may end up going back. The highlight was probably just seeing all the great outfits that everyone at the turnout was wearing. Certainly they were far better dressed than any of these pieces could ever hope to aspire to.

A very New York event, no one ever looked like they cared too much, just enough to get the goods. Calm aloof mayhem. "Did you want this? Oh no, you take it...." Who me, care? Certainly not. Brilliant, perfectly New York.

For those of you wanting to cash in on a little of the action in farther off places, the following items are still available online at Barneys Coop.

P.S.
The front display windows had live models with Kate Moss masquerade-type masks over their face, making subtle references to being coy. Maybe that should have been my first indication that like their masks, this event was not quite the real thing.
