"Amazing Girls": The New York Times Explores the Struggle that Girls Face in "Being All they Can Be"

For your reading pleasure. The Sunday Times had an excellent article on the so-called "Amazing Girls", high-school aged women who are struggling with the pressures to be smart, successful and beautiful, competing to get into the best Colleges and Universities and still be "hot". True, we have so many more opportunities now, but is it even harder to succeed? I remember feeling immense pressure to have stellar grades and look amazing in High School. Do we have time to do homework and our hair?

Read it here.

hey bergdorf girl, it's amazing how such a 'western'concept that is because it's starting to get the same here in Ireland...people are writing about the same thing, there's too much pressure, you're supposed to be smart, witty, intelligent, prett. ambitious and the list goes on, if you're not then there's something fundamentally wrong with you...!! arghhh what's a girl to do? you can't be everything to everyone, at all times I guess...by the way thanks for your comment on fashion filosofy, it's great to be up-to-date on what's happening on the ground in NY too!! ;)

i'm so glad you are addressing women's issues in your blog! young women of today certainly have a lot of societal pressures on them, but at the same time i'm happy that so many young women are striving to be so well rounded. i think that's a good thing. These young women are striving to be the "renaissance women" of today! the danger arises when one tries to do more than is realistically possible and ends up having a nervous breakdown...

as a tangent....
there are many more great women role models these days than in the past for young women to look up to. hillary clinton, nancy pelosi, condoleeza rice, anna wintour, emmy noether, so many great women fashion designers...i can make a list from here to the sky.. it's really a shame that in the entire history of the u.s, we haven't had a single woman president. Other, much smaller democracies, such as Israel and Latvia have had women as presidents...why not the u.s? i have my hopes on hillary...
