Lipstick Jungle: Our Answer to the Gap Left by Sex and the City?

So, I've been hearing news as of late that Brooke Shields is to star in a TV series adaptation of the book 'Lipstick Jungle' by Candace Bushnell. This is one of the few shows I have been excited about in a long time. I love SATC and still watch it religiously in lieu of anything decent having been created to replace it. So I wonder, will this live up to the inevitable hype of having not only a similar-ish plot to SATC but the obvious "its also written by Candace Bushnell" fact. The show is bound to have enormous pressure on it to live up to our expectations. I can only hope it does!

Info surrounding the series seems to be hazy...but it is set to release for the fall line-up and those that have seen the pilot seem to have good things to say. I read the book last year and I remember thinking it was pretty entertaining. In contrast with SATC, LJ focused more on job success and making it as woman in the work world while still maintaining family and relationship success, the characters are also older and more established, sort of SATC plus ten years.

The show will be carried by NBC. Excerpts from their press release below:

"Based on the best-selling novel by Candace Bushnell ("Sex and the City"), this fun dramedy follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game. Nico (Kim Raver, "24"), editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine, wants to replace her boss as CEO. Movie exec Wendy (Brooke Shields, "Suddenly Susan") finds even her most earnest efforts may not be enough to balance career and family. And free-spirited designer Victory (Lindsay Price, "Beverly Hills, 90210") longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find Mr. Right along the way. Armed with humor and strength, these three modern New York women support one another through the triumphs and tears that are all part of making it big in the Big Apple. Written by executive producers DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler (both for "How I Met Your Mother," "Three Sisters") and based on the book by Bushnell, "Lipstick Jungle" is from NBC Universal Television Studio. The pilot is directed by Gary Winick ("13 Going on 30")."

i am curious how this show will compare to Sex and the City. SATC is going to be tough to top.

how have i not heard about this???
is it to air next fall?
not a moment too soon. i have practically worn out my satc dvds with so much watching. nothing measures up for me.
the thing is, i wonder what the new show will be like. nbc is not hbo. there will likely be all sorts of gatekeeping around around issues of nudity, sex, language, drinking/smoking, and so on... the things that made satc, satc...
still, one has to try to remain optimistic!!!

Airdate: It's a bit up in the air (NPI), but I've heard that it is part of the fall line-up but also have heard it will air early Jan '08...so not totally sure about that. Maybe they are still negotiating...it was only picked up this week.
